Betal Nut girls?

I have always wondered how much those scantily clad girls are paid to sell betal nuts along Taiwan highways. I would think that a packet of betal nuts would not cost much since they target mostly at truck drivers. So how can the betal nut boss afford to pay these girls (to show so much skin) who would have demanded a lot more than the price of betal nuts?

I would say 10k- 30k (NT$) per month for most. A lot of them are independent moms who run it for extra cash outside their house by the highway in front of their farm. (the more conservatively dressed ones anyways- 3 out of 4 of the stands with just neon and NO underdressed high school girls fall into that category.)

The interesting stands that get everyones attention and cause traffic problems are the latter category. Some of those girls get paid extra commission for the number of sales they attract, thus they (? dont?) wear the clothing to make up to 60k per month with the commissions. These ones also likely charge more cash for the 'skin' fee. Some of them are required to wear what boss tells them as well. A very small percentage may also provide extra services it is rumoured. But I doubt it. Where can you go? Its a glass f***in box next to the highway??

Anyways I cant say I investigated it too hard. I just nearly kill myself everytime staring at the g-strings and nurse outfits and nearly going into oncoming traffic getting around the other suckers lined up to buy.the crap they sell. In some ways they annoy me. But I still love the eye candy. OINK!

Betel Nut ( English name) or 'Bin lang Babes are paid between NTD20K to 30K.(USD1/-=NTD33/-) Actually a very large part of the male population here chew Betel nuts.
Most of them are Vietnamese or ML Chinese ladies bogusly married to some local dudes who could care less about them, and they turn a lot of their salaries over to them. There aren't many native Taiwanese ladies around that skinny to do it, brought up on plenty of junk food of late. Exploitation and a traffic hazard if you ask me.
妾虫瑗挎柦 or Belel Nut Beauties (Girls) are paid pretty well compared to other similar service jobs. Betel nut is a huge industry in Taiwan - a lot of the folks esp drivers in the transportation industry chew betel nuts for stimulation and to combat sleepiness - it's like the "chewing gum" for Taiwanese drivers. Each small box costs a few hundred NT$ (US$10+). The mark-up is extremely high - similar to the energy drinks in the US.

Ten years ago, Betel Nut industry was already a NT$95 billion (US$3.4 billion) business on the island.

I went back to Taiwan several times in the last few years after having lived there in the 1960s. In those days, there were no betel nut girls. They are very nice to look at. I suspect many are not locals (I spoke to one who was from the mainland), so they may work for lower wages than others. I don't like the bitter taste of the nuts, but the girls are nice to chat with (although they are quite busy much of the time). In spite of Jack Sparrow's hint, I don't think the girls are for sale.
