Travel Tips
Hi!

1US dollar = 32NT

- Well you could get decent accommodation for around 10,000NT per month. You could get cheaper than that and share with people.

- Food is really cheap - trust me, you'll end up eating out more than you will cooking yourself. There are so many places to eat out or get take outs and they are all really cheap!

- Transport is also cheap - you buy a YOYO card - from any 7-11, put 500NT on it (works like a debit card) and you can use it on the bus and the MRT (metro). 500NT will last about 2-3weeks!

- I'm not sure about tax but Taipei is quite cheap - the most expensive thing here by far is accommodation! Apart from that, you'll be fine. I imagine 850 would easily be enough!

- Enjoy Taiwan, I love it over here (well it is a bit too humid somtimes but you can't have everything right?).

It depends on where you live. If you rent a small studio or an apartment in the downtown Taipei, the price will be at least NT12000 to 25000. If you don't mind rent in somewhere further, it might be cheaper. Since the transportation is so convenience and cheap, it doesn't hurt to think about living something a little further and not that busy, I think.

There is not tax in commodities or regular expense. But you might need to pay 5% tax if you go to a restaurant or a bar, or a hotel.

Transportation is also cheap. You can take buses or TRT(like subway). Buses is NT15 per trip. TRT basically goes to everywhere in Taipei. FYI, here attach the link of TRT:http://www.trtc.com.tw/e/

For both bus and TRT, you can get monthly pass. It would be much cheaper for you, if you need to take any of it routinely.

Food and material are both cheap. But it would be expensive to get real American stuff. But hey, Taiwan is a food, fruit and hi-tech country. Got to try the best food there!!

There are a lot of renting agents you can use to find a place to stay or rent. You can ask the people you know over there to check it out for you. Some of them even provide website, so you can check the room out before you go, and make sure you will like it.

Hope the info can help you. Enjoy the short-term life there. I am gonna be back there in Sep., too!! Yeah!! Can't wait.

myself
$850 is enough! For a small apartment costs about $300 per month(with bath room and kitchen), foods cost within $8 a day.(no restaurant!) take a bus and MRT(metro) cost not much. Around $0.5 - 2 a day. Don鈥檛 worry about the money, it鈥檚 enough!

Answers above are very complete and correct! One thing wrong is tax included for commodities as well. Everything costs 5% for tax, which are all included. As an foreigner intern, I am not sure that you have to pay for taxes or not. But if your job is legal, I think you should pay some taxes.

The expense above I quoted for you is a approximate amount. Of course you can have more economy life style here.

Let me know if you have any questions, I am glad to answer you here!! 飦?
