Why are people so sensitive about any criticism of Taiwan? |
Travel Info Locals and forgieners alike seem to be touchy when anyone says anything negative about Taiwan. On another site someone said that he doesn't like the spitting and betelnut or the way they drive in Taiwan and so many ppl were all over him for it. Travel Tips I think it is because some countries (mostly China) dont accept Taiwan as an actual independent country so the people there are really defensive and feel like they need to prove themselves. Others Taiwan is where stuff comes from. Like China or Japan. Who knows, maybe because the Western world has sided with them against Communist China. Taiwan used to be Formosa. During the Long March, Mao and Chiang Kia- Shek, who ended up in Taiwan, had long running battles, and the Western world gave aid to Chiang Kia Shek. Taiwan is anti communist, so I'm guessing if you criticize them, then you are saying??? what I don't know, but I think it goes back to the old red's under the beds paranoia. i didnt notice the sensitivity myself. most Taiwanese I hang out with complain about the crazy jerks who live here themselves. The one thing you notice after a while of being on overcrowded roads without rules is sometimes only the strong survive, and you have no choice but to become a jerk to get to point b. probably somebody was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he complained, likely he was talking to an audience of guilty feeling people who were not in the mood to be reminded of their faults. Taiwan is a great country. Why WOULDN'T you be mad if someone critisizes it? Everyone is defensive about their own country. |
