Travel Info How do goldsmiths shops make money?
Travel Tips
First of all the gold in the jewellery that they sell is not 24 carat it is usually 9 or sometimes 14 or 18 carat . So you could say that the gold is diluted down with much cheaper metals such as silver or copper. On top of that you don't just pay for the value of the gold used in the jewellery you pay for the work done in turning that gold into a necklace or whatever , and a lot of that work is done by machine not by hand and that reduces the production cost but the retail price will still be high enough to give the shop a good profit. |
