What kind of transportation from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake? |
Travel Info Can we take train or bus directly from Taiepei to Sun Moon Lake? How? Did anyone stay in Lalu Resort? I heard Lalu is a must place to stay! Travel Tips train Others right, you can take a bus directly from near the central train station in taipei, say 'Rih Yueh Tang" (you can add:-zai Nan Tou) (sun moon lake-) (in nantou) when you buy the ticket if their english isn't so hot at the bus station. most likely there will be a sign at the station you can point to, and more often than not there is a helpful local around who can help you. Your guidebook will likely have the chinese characters somewhere around it. You cannot take a train to Sun Moon Lake- there is no train tracks to there. There may be a train to Puli (20 min drive outside SunMoon), but I never tried so I cant really say for sure. The Lalu is the most expensive and historic hotel resort at SunMoon. its worth seeing, and having lunch there and looking around but I wouldnt stay unless you have alot of money to blow. You can get a better deal at any other hotel on the strip except for the one attached to starbucks- that one may be more expensive. A better deal can be had at the Apollo if you want a lake view and clean rooms, but a bit older, kindof boring decor. The windows are cool there. The Lalu is where the dictator Chiang-Kai-Shek set up his personal private villa by the lake. Sun Moon is a resevoir the japs created by drowning the native village that used to be where Sun Moon lake is now- i believe the villagers were moved beforehand. It was done for hydroelectric power to power the neon KTV signs everywhere here. (history repeats itself at the Three Gorges Dam currently!). Lalu island is the only remaining point on the island that is above water where the village used to be. You can take a boat and look at the shrine there. It is a very interesting hotel and its nice to see the locals getting something back these days. |
