What is it like in hongkong+ bangkok??? |
Travel Info i'm my way soon ?? Travel Tips It depends what you like but I rate Bangkok a 3 night city maximum. Yes it's different and hectic and full of life but it wears thin very quickly. I must have spent a total of several weeks there in short stays but I wouldn't rush back. Hong Kong, on the other hand, is the finest place on earth! Bit biased cos I lived there from Jun 90 to Jul 93. The other replies have lots of good info which i won't repeat; however I have a good recommendation for a day out. Firstly get up into the New Territories. Take the MTR (underground) to Tsuen Wan at the end of the line. Get on 51 bus over Route Twisk - this takes you up Tai Mo Shan, the tallest mountain in HK and then down in Sek Kong. When the bus stops get on any bus or PLB (small green and white minibus and keep going until you feel like getting off again. Don't worry about the destination. After doing the bus changing thing a few times you will have seen parts of the New Territories that few, if any, visitors ever see. And if you get lost you are never more than a 拢15 taxi ride from the MTR. When I lived there my wife and I would take our 2 young sons out like this from time to time. They loved it. HK people may not be overly friendly but they are also not in the least violent (except, occasionally, to each other). These little expeds are therefore very safe. And cheap. Public transport is cheap and efficient. Have a great time Others Hong Kong is very crowded, and very humid in summer. there are lots of high rise buildings and its really nice looking at the lights at night. the food and markets are good too. i've never been to bangkok. Hong Kong is a very westerized city. Trains can take you almost anywhere on the island or by taxis. Depending on the time of year, the weather varies. If your trip is soon, it will be warm there now. Bangkok is always hot or rainy. Shopping is good at both places with Bangkok being cheaper. You can get custom made suits, shirts and anything else in Bangkok reasonable. Hong Kong is a little more expensive, but in Hong Kong you can always go to the night market on Kowloong Island. It starts at 7 pm every night. Oh my god I love both those cities, you will not want to leave! Hong Kong is one of the most alive places on earth, it never goes to sleep, thus there is always something to do/see/buy. Spend hours roaming around lower Kowloon (south of Waterloo road). The density and street life will remain indwelled in your memory for ever. Hong Kong Island and Central kind of die after working hours...as they are the business areas of the city. Be sure to spend a day exploring an outer village or island, I recommend the town of Tai O on Lantau Island and the island of Cheung Chau. The giant Buddha is on Lantau Island...something to see when there are dense fog clouds flying around...very spiritual! Oh and dont forget to see Macau (former Portugese colony right across the delta of the Pearl River - connected by regular hydrofoil boat service), it looks like Rome but very Chinese. Bangkok is my favorite city in Asia, if not the world... It has amazing sites, markets, ethnic neighborhoods, shopping, whatever else you can think of! Be sure to see the Palace, Wat Pho temple and Wat Arun temple. The city's street culture though is its greatest aspect and what makes Bangkok truly unique. Spend lots of time exploring Chinatown and India town. My favorite area of the city is an area called the Farang, to the south of the central area (that of the palace)...its an old foreigners' district, but features a mixing of Thai, Chinese and Western buildings and cultural institutions. If you want to shop, do it here...you can shop your heart out in almost any area of the city. A northwestern area called Sirkumvit is home to most of the city's big shopping centers, good quality and abundant supply. For a more unique experience, head out to one of the floating markets outside of the city (consult your guide book or hotel for the best one since the ''best" of last year usually becomes so over ridden with tourists that is is no longer the best). For both cities, the weather will be a problem since summer is hot/wet season; so bring a good unbrella and be prepared to get soaked or have to run inside...the rain will fall like the Apocalypse...be prepared. Also, you WILL love the food. Have fun! been there! .....if you can.... catch a flight from hong kong to Taiwan........then head off around the island...its a gem of a place, and not overloaded with tourists and people who hassle you. The capital Taipei is busy, but the rest of Taiwan is pure heaven. HI David O covers just @ everthing in his answer ,both cities are good ,but i found the shopping in bangkok better and the people more friendly and helpfull ,its easy to get arround bangkok just but a day pass for sky train for 120baht and just use that to see the city .I think the food is better in bangkok aswell even from the st vendors it great any questions jusr email me ok |
