How to bargain? |
Travel Info How to bargain? Travel Tips Bargain, or haggling is a "name your price" system. First, find something you want to buy, and decide how much you want to pay for it. If you see a hat that you will spend 20 dollars on. Tell the store owner you will pay 15 dollars. He will say some number higher than that, if he says 25, say you will pay no more than 20. If he accepts buy it. Never pay what the store asks, only pay what you are willing to spend. Others i just came back from Bangkok 2 weeks ago and bargained at the start.but then i took a step back and thought"is it really worth trying to get something a dollar cheaper".for you its a dollar, pound for them its a meal.I'll say this also, don't get riped off.Another tip is this, buy 10 t-shirts at once.i brought 10-shirts(rip curl,billabong......)for 900 baht.the lady was happy as and so was i.Also a good smile and trying to say sa'wat'dii(hello)helps. good luck, hope it helps, its a awesome place, have fun!!!!! Go by the tagline of Nike's 'Just Do It' :-) Go to the market and look at how the locals do it. I've only bargained once for an elephant sculptur, I looked very interested at the begining and then refused every price until I was happy with it. From 750 baht down to 150Baht... saved $20. always say hello, and how much, in thai to get the best deal. the other thing i learned over there, always say no and walk away when they wont get any lower... they will always go lower! Sometime if you not get the price you want after some bargain, just walk away but not so fast. You may get a better offer. seller: 500 you: 200 seller: no,400 you: no,200 and leave him seller:o.k..can be 250? you: o.k. |
