Backpacking In Bangkok? |
Travel Info hey guys, will backpacking in Bangkok between 28thJune - 2nd July....3 girls, our first overseas backpacking experience so we'll need all the help we can get. First 2 nights we're planning on staying somewhere on khao san road (any suggestions- dorms are good!) to soak in the whole backpackers atmosphere & make friends. Next 2 days we want to move to Sukhumvit (probably staying at Train Inn - convenient and cheap) to shop, shop, shop! Any suggestions on what we should see/eat or where we should stay/shop? Also, anyone have idea how far Khao San is from Sukhumvit? Thanks guys! Travel Tips ok here's the facts, these others seem to be only tourist. Khao San Road is a backpackers heaven, your have no problem finding a cheap place to stay, some places have rooms with fan only and no hot water for about $10 us a night. and Khao Road is in walking distant to Wat Po, and the grand palace. also you can take a boat not far from Wat Po to Wat Arun on the other side of the river. Now Sukhumvit is about 30 to 45 minute ride depending where on Sukhumvit your staying. your need to take a taxi from Khao San to Sukhumvit then you have the skytrain to take you to the many shopping areas like Siam Square, or Patunam, or even jj's weekend market. below is a web site with links to tours and shopping in bangkok Source(s): http://www.bangkok.com Other Travel Tips Khao San Road is really a backpacker's paradise. Walk in to any place, you can check it out first and choose from the rooms that are available. Buddy Lodge is popular. For shopping --> the Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok must not be missed! Must See: 1. Grand Palace 2. Wat Traimit, Wat Po and Wat Benchamabophit 3. Colorful floating market of Damnoen Saduak 4. Rose Garden Country Resort for Thai Village Cultural Show and Elephant Show If you go to Sukhumvit is near to Silom area. Next to Silom area is Riverside area where Khao San Road is located. It would take around 15 minutes to 45 minutes travel, depends on traffic. Don't forget to try and eat Pad-Thai, Sticky Rice with Mango, Tom Yum Soup and Cachung. I'm not really into the whole Khao San Rd. thing - going abroad and having a lower standard of living than at home doesn't really work for me. However, if you really want to stay there ??? then you could have a look at http://www.shambarabangkok.com the prices are here:- http://www.shambarabangkok.com/index.php... Sukhumvit has a lot of department stores/malls. It is really nice. However, its not really a place for backpacker shopping except I guess pseudo-backpackers that stay in Khao San but really have a gold card in their wallet supplied by their parents. Gaysorn, Emporium, Siam Paragon - Prada, Gucci, Hermes, Dior, etc. etc. |
