I need some help deciding about my Thailand trip? |
Travel Info i am a 22 year old man and i am going over there in the begining of august together with my friend and staying there for the whole month of august. i am travelling from DANMARK and i need all of you fine people to help me out to figure out some things: 1. should i take cash with me or should i take my visa card (3rd generation with a chip on it) 2. what are some cheap things to buy in thailand (clotehs and such) 3. heatlh risks and how to prevent them thanks a bunch to all that help me out in my quest for the perfect holiday!! (man kan godt svare p氓 dansk ogs氓) Travel Tips 1. Cash will be handy for any type of restaurant, accommodation, or shops. Keep your visa for "just in case". Better bring travelers cheques and cash as well. When you change your cheques, exchange rate may be slightly lower than cash but they are reissueable when lost or stolen. 2. Fashions (wears, shoes, bags, etc) are good buy. Handcrafts are also cheap. Visit Weekend Market in Morchit. There are millions of things sold. Very exciting. 3. Drink bottled water, apply mosquito repellent when you get outside in the evening, sun screen is a must unless it's raining. At your age, you may expect some wild night life but stay away from red district (Nana area, Patpong etc). Bars and parlors there are for grown-ups. Try discos if you wish. Enjoy your summer in Thailand, you did an excellent choice. Others better keep a suitable amount of cash but not heavy amount card is secure and that is better. thai land is cheep for shopping in every matter. check thai embassy about the medical resticrion 1. You should have cash on you if you are planning on buying cheap things from the stalls on the street. You can exchange money at hte airport or use a bank card to withdraw from an ATM. (check with your bank before you leave regarding possible fees.. it might pay to take the cash) 2. You can have shirts and suits made for you very cheaply in Thailand. Be wary because the quality varies widely, especially if you are buying silk. Thailand pushes their silk trade but it is truly not as high of quality as India. You will also find a lot fo cheap trinkets for souvenirs and things carved from wood. Ever popualr souvenir from Thailand is the carved wooden elephant or the plastic Tuk-tuk. (this is the Thai version of a taxi) If you are in Bangkok and look like a foreigner, everyone will be looking to sell you something. 3. I am not commenting on your possible morals, but please be aware that the sex trade is a high-risk situation in Thailand and many young, underage girls are used. They have little other chance in life. It is a good thing to just stay clear of. Otherwise, I find the food safe and I drink bottled water. If you are unfamiliar with eating off of the street stalls, stay away. I do it in China and Korea and am fine, so I chance it in Thailand as well. Also, be aware of Thailand's harsh punishment in connection with illegal drugs, child prostitution and defacing public property. i use atm cards in thailand atm machines are just about everywhere so you dont have to walk around with large amounts of cash i think the eftpos cards are cheaper to use then visa its best if you have a backup card in case you loose one the chatuchak weekend market in bangkok is the cheapest place to shop |
