Why did they hate me? |
Travel Info This is going to sound like a stupid question but I went to asia for school Thailand to be more specific but I took several trips to Japan as well and I was just thinking back on my experience and I am tryin to figure out why the Thai people did not like me I think its because I am half African American the Japanese were friendly but the Thai people not so much can anyone give me anymore imput because I dont know if I should go back to Thailand for school considering how the Thai people treated me. Travel Tips I agree with Adam, I see it too. Best you go somewhere else. You can see by Jet's comments that Thailand is not like it used to be. Others your classmate n teacher are thais? if you feel the hate around you, you should not go back. I can tell you there is a strong anti-foreigner attitude in Thailand these days. They seem to hate anyone who is not Thai, and only put up with Tourist who spend money here.. Basic thing: if you don't like it there, don't go! I got the same response..., I went to Thailand expecting "the land of smiles", and got a bunch of bad vibes from people who refused to smile. Modern Thais, especially in the cities are corrupted by greed, and don't know a good thing when they haveit- rice in the fields, coconuts dropping off the trees.. They think they'd be better off in Chicago and that all westerners are rich, and should hand all their money over to them.. However, not all Thais are that way by far, and I also had many good times. I am told for a really different experience in Thailand, go to the south, where all the Muslims live. It seems because, unlike the Buddhists, they believe in a vengeful God watching over them, so they are more likely to be friendly to those in need, and less likely to rip you off. (just don't rip them off and expect to keep your hands) First of all, you should look at yourself before you blame the people around you. 1 against 1000? who's right, who's wrong? How people in your neighborhood homeland treat you? Do they treat you well or do most of them show respect and love you? It goes both ways. Like tooon68 said - look at yourself before blaming people around you first. True - not every Thai will be nice but that happens everywhere in the world. A lot of Thai people don't lke farang because of the way farangs treat them - usually with great contempt, and order Thai workers or subordinates with no respect and like they were sub-human. How did you really treat people around you? But if you don't like to go back there, then don't. |
