Tipping in Pattaya/Bangkok? |
Travel Info How much do you tip for: A 200 baht foot massage- A 300 baht oil massage- A 150 baht meal- do you tip the cleaning lady at your hotel? do you tip the reception at the hotel? Do you even tip people who give you a massage? Do you tip the lady at the internet cafe? How much? Travel Tips i tip for massage 20 baht, i do not tip any member from the hotel staff except bell boy for carrying bags and why would you tip the lady at the Internet cafe, I have no idea. if you paid 150 baht for a meal you don't eat in the same places i do and you most likely paid a 10% service charge already. This question seems like a hoax. me and the person who answered below me must live in two different bangkok's. Why tip 50% of the cost of the service doesn't make sense to me. I guess they feel like the rich and powerful and is given a donation to the poor and weak. Others All these are relative. Considering that the cost is so low, these people only get a small proportion of what you pay actually. So if you like the service for any type of massages, tips from 50-200bahts to the massager will be welcome. You like it, tip more. As for food, typical 10% of price is applicable, but more if you like them, say 50-100bahts, not a big deal for you. For hotel staff, depends. Bell-boy usually 20-100bahts, room cleaning staff, just leave 100baht on your pillow when you leave the room, receptionist, 100-200bahts always welcome. Internet cafe, your choice. A 200 baht foot massage- 100 Baht A 300 baht oil massage- 100 Baht A 150 baht meal- depends, on where you eat, 20 Baht do you tip the cleaning lady at your hotel? Yes leave 100 Baht everyday - I feel sorry for the cleaning ladies, I think they are undertipped whereas I think the bellboys get a lot of tips for not very much work. How hard is it to carry a suitcase to the elevator and then to the room? No very. So I tip them the minimum correct amount (Baht100) grudgingly. On the other hand I tip the cleaning lady willingly coz I reckon they don't get much in the way of tips. do you tip the reception at the hotel? No Do you even tip people who give you a massage? Yes, cf Q.1&2, for 2 hour Thai massage (which is what I normally order) Baht200, unless they haven't been friendly then Baht150 (Baht 50 penalty for not being nice) - if v. amusing conversation, Baht 300 (Baht100 bonus for making me laugh) Do you tip the lady at the internet cafe? How much? No. [Added: Other tips I have given in Thailand; Baht200 to a traffic cop (the going rate) not to write me a ticket for being in the wrong lane when going round Victory Monument. Baht300 to a Cambodian border guard (the going rate) for giving me my passport back and going and getting the Cambodian 'in' and 'out' stamps - he more or less insisted on providing this service. He had stopped me and demanded to see my passport. I duly handed it over - how could I say no. Anyway, I really wanted my passport back; being stuck on the wrong side of the Cambodian border without a passport is not my idea of fun. I'm going on a organised 'visa run' next time even if it does mean getting up in the middle of the night. Baht20 for filling my car with gasoline - for the fun of it.] eh? Not such a windstorm - Why don't you do this? Use your own judgment - tip people more if they make you feel good - I like the old laughing taxi drivers who are so upbeat and joyous and increasingly hard to find - I give them more than usual - it makes them really happy which makes me really happy and well, that is the idea of it all... right? - I never thought abt tipping at an internet cafe... you must be a most kind and generous man... 1. 20 bahts 2. 20 bahts 3. 10-20 bahts 4. Needn't tip 5. Needn't tip 6. Yes,sometimes 20 bahts 7. - |
