Off to Thailand in October and have finally found the perfect hotel, BUT...?

Travel Info
It's in Old Chinatown (on Yaowaraj Road.) This is perfect lots of shopping and attractions but I was wondering how far it is from places like RCA and Soi cowboy as we're likely to go out clubbing a few times.
I've read that as Chinatown is so busy some taxis won't pick you up from there (don't mind walking for a few minutes to get somewhere a bit quieter but don't want to feel isolated.) Have tried to find out the distance by searching google but not having much luck...If you know please tell me...How long/much is a taxi ride, Could we jump on a tuktuk or is it withing walking distance?

Thanks :)

Travel Tips
i think your making a mistake staying in Chinatown. The shopping is mostely open air markets. Lots of traffic and yes sometimes it's hard to get a taxi. Also the better shopping is in down town near Siam Square, Patrunam and Sukhumvit. plus those areas are close to the sky train and under ground. Source(s): living in Bangkok

Thailand is known for it's tourist industry. If you have the almighty American dollar the taxis will pick you up from anywhere and take you anywhere you want to go. I wouldn't worry about getting a taxi or transportation just ask the hotel to get one for you before you're ready to leave. They are more then happy to help.

As for the cost, it shouldn't be too much. As around when you get there. Get someone you know who lives there to ask for you. Many places of business in Thailand artificially jack up their prices for tourist. And many expect you to haggle with them. So learn to haggle. It can be fun.

Have fun and good luck.
I'm from that area.
Avoid TukTuks except for the shortest of rides. They are unsafe and uncomfortable. Taxi prices are very reasonable in Thailand, just stay as a group for safety. The hotel can call one for you if you cannot get one on your own, but that will cost a bit more.

You can even consider the sky train for a portion of the trip as Soy Cowboy is near the Asoke Skytrain station.
Well the best bet would be if the hotel can get you a taxi. I can tell you I absolutely dread going to Chinatown and trying to get a taxi out of that place.

First there seem to be very few taxis and the taxis are very choosy about where they want to go, so if you are not going in a direction they want to go, they simply will not pick you up.

I go to Chinatown quite a bit and KlongThom Market, but as far as shopping and attractions, I do not think this location is even remotely worth fighting the traffic over.

Even if you manage to get a taxi, the traffic there is HELL. I have been stuck in a taxi for an hour trying to get one mile.

Forget Tuk Tuks as well because they are few and stuck in traffic as well.

It seems to me if the bulk of your vacation is going to be clubbing and shopping, then stay away from the hotels in Chinatown and stay somewhere near the Skytrain so it is easy to get around to everywhere.

Chinatown is good for wholesale things, but most of the stuff you would want to b buy is readily available anywhere, and in locations with less traffic and less hassle to get there.

Then for one day you can venture into Chinatown and you will see exactly what I mean about the traffic. I do not think you want to waste half your vacation stuck in traffic jams because the traffic there is the worst.

RCA and Soi Cowboy are accessible very easily if you chose another location to stay. But if you really want to hit the hot clubs, try Ratchadapisek Road, (Bali and Zeeds are the two best discos in Bangkok). On a given Saturday night, Bali will have a few thousand people and it is one gigantic party.

I think you will be very frustrated staying in Chinatown and if you have time, reconsider and find another hotel close to the Skytrain.
