Travel Info Going to Thailand soon, staying at a resort. Should i really get all shots...tetanus booster, japanese? etc... Travel Tips Notwithstanding sensible advice given by others, if you are coming in from the USA there are no legal requirements for shots of any kind. NONE............ Here is what the USA Government has to say: http://www.cdc.gov/travel/seasia.htm... Others Yes, especially if you plan on experiencing some of the "attractions" in Bankok. Errrrr....let's see......YES!! The military makes these shots mandatory for a reason... You will have to have all of your shots up to date before you can get into the country including yellow fever. I travel a lot worldwide for work and have had all my shots. That said, if you're going as a tourist and staying at a resort you won't likely be in contact with everything that someone living longer periods in Thailand would need. The most important jabs are the tetanus booster and Hep A/Hep B shots. Any traveller should have these no matter where they go. I'd skip Japanese Encephalitis, Meningitis, Rabies and anything else listed. The cholera vaccine is pretty useless (20% effective). Instead, take the proper precautions for mosquitos (repellent, long sleeves, etc.) and find out if you need malaria stuff. You will only need proof of Yellow Fever if you are coming from a region affected by Yellow Fever (i.e. Africa) I work in international development, and was just in Thailand and Nepal last month. |
