Others anything has some risk right. i used to hate the fact that everybody sues each other in america, but it keeps **** safer than most of the world. Generally I'd have to say no, it's not dangerous. I've lived in Thailand for 3 years with no problems. Southern Thailand in the Yala province is a danger zone that you'd generally want to avoid, but other than that I'd have to say it's relatively safe. Read online papers like The Nation and The Bangkok Post. The terrorists are derailing trains. The government stopped service. Repair workers are guarded by Thai military. The three southmost provinces are super-dangerous for anyone, especially non-Thais. Very insecure and unpredictable. I am a Southern Thai. I would like to ask "where would you like to take Southern Thailand train to?" Because, normally it is safe and fun to go by train but it will be very dangerous if you would like to go to Ya la, Pattani, Narathiwas or along to Malaysia this time (even by other ways). Please avoid to go to those 3 provinces. Yes it is but it's not only train, any public transportation is dangerous. As Rungrat C answered, avoid those three provinces. Seems like the train service through the 3 southern state of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani had been put on hold for indefinite period due to militants activities in removing nails from the rail lines. The authorities are not sure how extensive the damages are, and will need to inspect the whole rail lines in these southern provinces. So, best to avoid train through thses places till the all safe signal and rail travel resumed, maybe in a couple of months. |
