I don't know if there is bullfighting in Phuket, I've never seen anything about it there myself. However bullfighting is somewhat popular in Southern Thailand, and I know in Hat Yai they do have bullfights, and bullfighting rings there. But there are no "matadors," the two bulls fight each other, and like nowhereman said, they do it for the betting.

We have buffalo fighting. However I'm not in Phuket. I'm in Koh Samui. I'm sure you can ask at your hotel and they'll be able to direct you.
