Can we get married in Thailand? (2 foreigners not resident in Thailand)?

Travel Info
Hi I would like some advice on getting married in Thailand. We are both non-Thai. Will it be legally recognised when we are back in France? How long time does it take?
Thanks

Travel Tips
Yes you can. What you should do is this:-
1. Go to the French Embassy in Bangkok and request to fill in the form for your intention to marry in Thailand.
2. Fill in the form and get it approved by the consulate in the embassy. He will need proof of your "singlehood", meaning divorce papers if you have ever been divorced etc.
3. Go and get the form translated into Thai by a translation company - the embassy can recommend one.
4. The translated copy need to be stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order for it to be official. The translation company can organise this.
5. Translated copy of the form can then be used to invite the district registrar to issue the marriage certificate. If you are getting married at the hotel, they can help you organise this. If not, you can head to the district registrar's office yourself.

Alternatively, if you are willing to pay for a hassle-free paperwork, go to this website www.creativeeventsasia.com and ask them to organise everything for you at a charge. Source(s): I organise weddings in Phuket THailand.
Other Travel Tips
yes you can, but you need to register the wedding when you get back home.
Make sure you get all the propper documet to take back with you.
Of course you can! You need to register with the French embassy in Bangkok if you don't want to go through the hassles of re-registering it again back in France.

Good luck!
Yes you can get married in Thailand, you just have to make sure your home country recognizes aThai marriage certificate. I know American does ( I am America).

If you type it in on a search engine like yahoo, a million and one things will tell you if you can or cannot get married here..

there is a lot of info on the web, I found all the info I needed in seconds with searching through yahoo.

or call your local thai ebassy in france and ask them...they can tell you in a second.

many of my friends, so they don't have to pay for translations, and other things like that etc..is that they got married in their own country (they just went and signe dthe paper) and then they came here and had the wedding here..
I did that too.......I was married for two weeks b4 I had my wedding

my friend was married for a 3 montsh before her wedding
