I s Thailand (specifically Bangkok) still tourist friendly, even though its military run?

Travel Info
i heard about drive-bys , bombings and murder in the south, or does the capital count as part of the Buddhist north?

Travel Tips
yes Bangkok and all areas of Thailand is Tourist Friendly but good advice not to visit the 4 providences in the far south for safety reasons. The military doesn't seem to have much control of anything especially in the deep south.

Trust me, you won't even feel the 'military presence' or having the atmosphere of a 'military government' throughout your stay in Bangkok or other northern/central provinces.

Just stay away from the south (Phuket is still good!)...
Agree with the Bear. Stay away from the south where some crazies are ruining it for the entire country.
I went with my family to Bangkok during Songkran in April and a lot of ppl also said there would be bombing and violence during that time, but nothing like that happened.
Just exercise caution and you'll be okay.
There is some strife in the southern part of Thailand. The "Military Take Over" seems to have no effect on the country. Thailand has coups every few years where various factions of the government struggle to see who can control the economy and the power structure. However; you will notice that the King and the Royal family stay the same and nobody every messes with them. The government can change but the real power stays the same and that is the King. Have fun in Thailand. You will never notice a military presence and the people are still wonderful and appreciate your business and presence.
I was on the street in BK during the coup and left through the airport the same day. Very civilized. I got a photo with me and a tank infront of the palace. Great fun.
I've been riding a scooter through Thailand for the past few weeks. The police have stopped me five times and they simply checked my papers. I did pay a 10usd fine for going the wrong way though (the warning sign was in Thai language).
The capital is in Central Thailand at the apex of the Gulf of Thailand.

The only "recognized tourist destinations" where you need to think twice about visiting are Hat Yai and the surrounding area, and perhaps Krabi.

Even in those places tourists will be made to feel welcome, it's just that you would place yourself at a slightly higher risk for no good reason (i.e.there are thousands of other places you can visit with absolutely no attendant risk).

There is no current discernible evidence/presence of military rule in Bangkok. There are no current inhibiting factors in planning a visit to Bangkok.

You just need to try to have some rudimentary appreciation of the Thai culture, keep an open mind and heart, avoid any disparaging reference to the King, and SMILE.
