Urgent help with Thailand Visa? |
Travel Info I am going to Thailand for 37days on Wednesday 20th of June (in 3 days!) and I just found out that I need more than the visa you can obtain at the airport as that only covers 30days. Having rung the embassy and being told that I should have applied two weeks previous to this I don't know what to do! Any suggestions...? I am a British national by the way, as this seems to make a difference as to what I can and cant do! Travel Tips Save the time and trouble by going to border checkpoints to get your 30-day entry stamp (and you can extend your stay for even longer periods!). If you are in Bangkok, you might want to get a bus to Aranyaprathet and make a U-turn at the border of Cambodia (Poipet) and spend about half a day of shopping at their border market there. Another option is to go to Trat, which is kind of a longer way compared to Aranyaprathet (but cleaner and is just right next to the sea with great views and sceneries). If you're in the south (the nearest is the city of Hatyai), make a day trip to Bukit Kayu Hitam border of Malaysia via Sadao and Dannok. Be sure to stay within the safe zone to avoid hassles with security or possible militant attacks. In the northeast, you can go to the Laos border via Nongkhai to Vientienne and in the northwest, is the border between Burma and Thailand (via Chiang Rai/Maesai and Tachilek). Immigration officials will request you to make a payment of 200 to 500 Baht of undertable fee and be prepared with it 'just in case'. To avoid hassles, just pay them at the counter and avoid arguments. They won't bother you after that. BE SURE to ignore touts and street kids offering 'visa services', NO MATTER HOW NICE THEY ARE. These are NOT the officials appointed by the government representing any agencies and are out there to cheat tourists. Good luck and have fun! Others well i dont know where you are but if you are near the thai consulate cardiff there you can walk in and out in 5 minutes and get a tourist visa TOURIST VISA This type of visa allows a stay of up to 60 days from the date of arrival, provided entry is made into the country WITHIN 90 days of the date of issue of the visa. A further 30 day extension of stay is possible on application to the immigration authorities in Thailand and upon payment of the current fee. Double or more entries can be obtained, when the entry period is extended to 180 days, before the visa becomes invalid. Visitors have to leave Thailand at the end of the first and other permitted periods and then re-enter the country on subsequent entries. e.g. A visitor arriving in Thailand is given 60 days. At the end of this period (or extension) the visitor must leave the country and use other entries by re-entering Thailand. On each occasion, entry has to be made before the cancellation date incorporated in the Visa, when issued. or you can just do a visa run whilst you are here to cambodia or loa visa run here are the norm or you can just pay 500 baht a day overstay i have used the thai consulate cardiff many times i live in thailand http://freespace.virgin.net/royalthai.co... you will have no problem.just get the visa they give you on arrival and renew it once you are there. i did it many times two choices - probably best would be to go to Immigration on Suan Plu in Bkk - [ pronuonced Sue Win Plu rhymes w/blue ] - I believe that you can buy a ten day extension there - many people go to the border and exit and re-enter, but you lose a full day in doing this.. good luck Well, the price for overstaying your visa is 500 Baht (7.8 GBPounds) per day. So, if that's worth it to you, you can just overstay and pay the fee, which will not be a problem when you leave the airport. |
