Is it better to book tours for bangkok on arrival or pre book in UK? |
Travel Info I am going to Bangkok in Aug for 5 days with family- husband 2 children aged 13 and 10. Want to visit the usual- Grand palace, floating market , tiger sanctuary, Kwai. Some tour operators semm to include lots on one day- is ot too much? Travel Tips I would highly recommend you to book the tour upon arrival. If you will stay at a decent hotel, book thru hotel. The hotel usually has a connection with decent and reliable tour operators who offers regular tours to popular sites that you mentioned. Even you are not staying at the hotel, you can still go to those big names and ask them for tours info. They are usually very helpful. It will be safer and better for a family trip with children. There are so many tour operators that they can always make arrangement with one day in advance. But it would be good though if you can read some info to have an idea of what places you would love to go. For a 5-day trip in Bangkok and if your trip covers weekend, Chakchuchak flea market is nothing to miss. The floating market nearer to town opens only on weekends. Otherwise it would take you 80km of travel to the one that operates also on weekdays. I was there before but I didn't like it. The trip was too long for that and it is too touristic. Suggest you take a good rest on the 1st day, talk to hotel/ tour operator and fix your iten ahead. 2 days should be good enough for city tour/ tiger garden/ basic shopping (if you are not crazy shoppers). For those one-day tour that crams a lot of sites, i don't suggest as it would be too tiring. Break into 2 half days and with the afternoon as the free time to see/ shop/eat around or even swim/ relax in the hotel may be an alternative to you. Don't miss a sunset boat ride on Chao Phraya river. If you love cycling and heritage, highly recommend you to go to the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. It is an World's Heritage site. Early morning departure, a good day of cycling and viewing of heritage sitting on the lawn leisurely, evening back. It is such an unforgettable site to me. Tour operators also organises daily tour. Sending you there and picking you up at a certain time. There are bike rentals everywhere or you may check with tour operator first. Wish you all enjoy there. Others book in thailand. You'll only be adding another layer of people taking a cut. When you get there check out offers in your hotel,oh and by the way if you have to go to your hotel by taxi use the official taxi rank, not the sharks at the arrival gate.Enjoy, but don't go to the zoo......it's tragic. The Thai tourist board is called TAT and all agents should be TAT accredited. Many of the tour agents offer the same itineries so shop around a bit if you want to save a small amount of money.Happy travels and remember sawasdee kaa is hello for women and sawasdee khrap is hello for men or just hello ex pat I have been to Bkk thrice already in the last 5 years and feel its one of the best holiday destinations which makes your money really strech to give you great value for money. Get there and snoop around; ask people, make friends and hire a student preferably with a car to take you around. You will be more than pleasantly surprised how helpful the Thai are and will contribute to make a great holiday for you. Experience Hi, i would suggest pre-booking a couple of tours before you go, by a well known agent in UK. But you should also have no trouble doing it from there, theres some government registered travel agents in Bangkok (I'm not sure their name it has only 3 letters AIK or something). But with a family the less stuffing around over there the better + with all the language difficulties it could be a hassle. Anyway good luck. and dont forget.. sawadeekaa is hello! I went to Bangkok last year and booked all my tours in Khao san road. The road is an experience in itself! You can shop around the tour shops for prices and get a deal if you book one or more tours. Getting around by taxi is a cheap way of travelling - better than tuk tuks (altho good for an experience too!) Enjoy your holiday! |
