Travel Info What is the Thailand government and public attitude toward buying American products? Travel Tips You do see quite a few American products here, but they are mostly from American companies who manufacture here in Thailand or Asia. The Thai government like all governments is somewhat protective of products made in Thailand and therefore tariffs and protectionist measures are in place to protect Thai jobs. Colgate is big here, Nabisco, Kraft, Kellogg's, Pepsi, Coke, Frito-Lay, McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and many other American brands are sold here and do quite well. Chevrolet's are becoming more popular, as are HP/Compaq computers, although they tend to be priced higher than most of their competitors. It's more a question of American companies who can produce their products cheaply enough to compete in this market, rather than the Thai government imposing trade barriers that make it dificult to compete. Many American companies do very well here and many of their products are well received by the Thai people. Others One attitude is that a lot of American products are too expensive in Thailand. Maybe you should look around you and tell us if there is anymore products that are completely made in USA. Most are made in china or places like thailand. they want to buy illegal software from the US and steal drug secrets from large drug firms in the US there is no attitude to buying american goods.............other than.........yet meh peng mak..................that's expensive mother f00ker The Thai market is geared more toward European products/brands when it comes to both fashion and cosmetics. For electronics-same as most other Asian countries-lots of Japanese/Korean products going around. It's mainly cuz most of the tourists are European based so that's what they come in contact with. I'd love to buy American products at the moment since the Thai Baht has gained lots and lots of ground against the US dollar which should be making things from the US getting cheaper and cheaper. Inevitable, BUT, I鈥檝e searched and searched what I should buy and you know what the US doesn鈥檛 produce many of the things that I鈥檇 like to buy anymore. The only produces from the US we are using is Software (Mr. Bill Gate has gotten to be the richest man on earth already), and films from Hollywood, that just about all I can think of. I mean if money is not the concern, one finds produces from Europe are of a much better quality that the US. Take Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and etc. for cars if you have lots of money and Japanese cars like Toyota and Honda for lower income earners. Electric applicants are much better and cheaper from Japan and Korea: Medicine, fashionable clothing from Europe. Thailand produces very good foods and garments already but for the up markets these things again come from Europe and Japan. Please find something for us to buy that is of a good price and quality, then we鈥檇 buy it. |
