Do Thailand have Price controls? |
Travel Info Do Thailand have Price controls? Travel Tips yes...thailand have price controls...the government always monitoring it to protect the consumers ;> Others not sure what you exactly mean..but in the small shop areas..u can always bargin..sometimes in the malls too yes not as you'd notice but imported goods are punitively taxed........up to 300% on some items In time of wars and crises may be. Sometimes when there're hoarding of what deemed essential products like one time sugar (amazing ha!), the government past out order of ration and anti-hoarding along with price control measures. But , in general, I guess most Thai policy makers are students of the UK economic theories that inflation should be controlled by the monetary and fiscal policies of market interventions from time to time and not by price control outright as your question. Majority of the time, we let the market decides. Oh, one recent example was when there was a problem on the price of pork, the government agency intervened by selling pock in the market at a price they thing fit for both producers and consumers. Alternative pork was advertised and not compelled for both buyers and sellers. I think that is the trend now. I鈥檓 not in favour of high custom duty as well because I鈥檓 a full time consumer. But, Thailand also member of the WTO and abolitions of tariff and non-tariff barriers are discussed at that international forum. Please think again before complaining about 300 % tax and look at Japan. |
