Is insect repellent a basic need in Thailand? |
Travel Info Is insect repellent a basic need in Thailand? Travel Tips Big time, I live in Bangkok and during certain times of the year, insect repellent is a necessity, especially this year, as there have been dozens cases of dengue fever reported in Bangkok, and a few deaths as well. We always keep repellent in the car in case we need it when we go somewhere and my wife is always putting it on our daughter if we are out in the evening. Many outdoor restaurants will light a mosquito coil under the table while you're there, and in the development where we live, everyone uses electrified "tennis racquets" to kill mosquitos, we have five of them. We live in the city. and the problem is much worse in the country and even places like Phuket and Koh Samui. Others EWWW THERES SOME BIG *** BUGS IN THAILAND Not really. I was in Bangkok last year July, and brought it, but did not really need to use it. I was in Thailand again (Udon Thani) last month and did not bring it at all. Visited some parks and such, but no bites ;) Of course, the flies at the park that are attracted to your sweat might be a bit irritating... Really depends on where you are and what you are doing. If you are in the cities like Bangkok then there is almost no need to have any insect repellent. However, if you are in chaing Mai doing a elephant ride - trecking thru the jungles then you might want to bring along the insect repellent Have fun It probably depends on when you go there. During the rainy season (June to the end of October) you probably will have some problem with mosquito bites. And an insect repellant would help. But it's not something you have to bring with you. Insect repellants are sold there in many stores. yes some people don't seem to need it,but unless you're one of the lucky ones you will.Buy it out there it'll be a lot cheaper and remember it's much better to avoid bites than to see what reaction you get afterwards. It is a fact everybody gets insect bites,it's just that some people don't react nearly as bad At around 4pm cover up your legs and ankles especially, this seems to be their favourite dining area. When you go out to eat, the mozzies look for the gap between your trousers and shoes underneath the table and have a good old go at you I've lived in Thailand 3 years and they still don't leave me alone For after-care you can get an ammonia stick which work well or a small pencil thing that gives the bite a small electric shock(it doesn't hurt)and they do work |
