Why are there so many dogs in Bangkok?

Tons of stray dogs everywhere! Why is that?

It is true that Thais love dogs but the sad fact is.....although not all thais are like this.. many ppl here see puppies and then they buy them right away ... and as time goes on after the dog is full grown the dogs are no longer "cute". so many ppl here will abandon them (like i said n ot all ppl here do this, but many do) and many thais (same as many other ppl all over the world) after they no longer want to look after their grown up dogs, they end up abandoning them. many times at temples, leaving the responsiblity of taking care of their dogs to the monks(which i find is very sad)
And the practice of neuturing or spaying dogs in this country is not really practice. many thais love their dogs and part of this love encourages them to want to breed their dog with another cute breed to see what the offsprings would look like not planning or thinking or planning before hand to see if these new pups will have responsible owners who will love/care for them til their old age.
with the two mentioned reasons above. this causes many stray dogs to breed and offspring many more future stray dogs... and with Thailand being a buddhist society the thot of "putting down" or euthenizing dogs is considered a sin. that is why although there are dog shelters in the city and outskirts of Bangkok, they get too crowded and the stray dogs in the city stay strayed dogs.....

AND TO ALL OF THOSE WTH THE DOG EATING COMMENTS, THAT IS NOT PRACTICE HERE IN BANGKOK. educate urselves before making stupid comments, u have a computer in front of u obviously, so do some educational researches and stop with the porn..

To CARIG C, people DO NOT eat dogs in Bangkok.
Because its a animal friendly country too.
thais are mad dog lovers,just about every household's got one or two,and you only need a few to go walkabout every day to get a population explosion.I dont think thais understand the concept of birth control and it's got to be one of the commonest sights in the country to see dogs at it.I'm surprised it isn't featured on those tourist postcards
Once a dog is born into straydom(is that a word)god help it because no human is going to.They are truly pitiful.Americans thinking thais eat dogs is delusional just as americans on R+R thinking they were going to win in Vietnam was
