Why do hotels charge a supplement when one occupies a single room? |
Travel Info Why do hotels charge a supplement when one occupies a single room? Travel Tips This is the hotel's way of minimising loss from single occupancy as oppose to double occupancy where they can collect from more individuals. Bad practice, and probably bad ethic especially if you are a lone traveler and meeting local friends which render you having to stay alone. Wonder if there is an organisation that we can complain to. Others Because they are greedy wankers. Tompson hoildays charged me 拢750 for two weeks in spain on my own. It would of been 拢390 eash to two of us. Any got to the hotel only to find it costs 拢8 a night not single supplement. I was bloody peed of and complety made my hoilday poo. I do everything on line know. Never going with a tour opperater again. I have no idea, you would have thought they would save on the breakfast for only one person. Maybe they think the single person will bring someone to stay in their room and they are covering themselves? Hotels have got to show a profit. Some even charge an extra fee for a view of the park or sea front. I've even paid a fee to get a window seat in a restaurant! There's no end to the business of charging supplements and extras. If enough of us simply refused to pay or did not take the service offered, then the supplements would simply stop. It's called people power. We the customers can stop a business stone dead in the water by simply not paying for it's services. If you do not like a given airline, why fly with them? Surely it cannot be because they're cheap? Edit: testicles above is right. We do not need tour operators to arrange our holidays and never have. I've had plenty of holidays where I've just turned up at a resort and got a room right away at a nearby hotel. If you do this off-season, it's even easier. Just make sure there's no convention in town the day you arrive, or else the hotels will be fully booked with strange travelling sales persons and such. i never paid a supplement fee when i stay at a hotel. never heard of it being done other then on a tour package. If you book the hotel separately on a website such as ebookers, expedia, hotel.com you should be able to book a single room without paying a supplement - in most cases you are paying just for the room and anything else such as breakfast is on top I work in a hotel where single room supplement is on the tariff, but i never add it to the bill as i do not belive people should be penalised for being single! |
