Has anyone recenty been to the Grand Palace in Bangkok? What kind of experience have you had? |
Travel Info I just got back from Thailand and have to admit that visiting the Grand Palace was by far the worse experience I've had while there. The number of tourists have gone up and with that, their "hospitality" has gone to sh*t. I was screamed at by several military guards working the doors at many of the enterences and infront of the buildings... Travel Tips i took my daughter there two weeks ago, and have been there myself two other times, nothing different about the place i seen. Must have been a bad hair day. Source(s): me Other Travel Tips Went there about 2 years ago with a tour group. It was a good trip. Sorry to hear that yours didn't turn out that well. well like alot of visiters i have never had a bad trip there. although never seem to be alot of ppl about when i have visited. Never heard anyone 'shouted' at apart from some kids trying to get in one part without taking there shoes off - but nothing too big. I would think its a one off rather then anything else. But to me its ssomething i have seen once and prob would not do again really Was there 2 months ago, and it seemed like all other visits. I think the country is on high alert because of the New Year's Eve bombings and the violence in the south, and security might be a bit more vigilant. That should not mean that they should be less courteous or friendly if you think they were. Oh my god it was terrible! We were walking around it for sooo long trying to find the entrance, anyone we asked said "its not open yet, come with us we can give you a better tour/call you a tuk tuk/ get you a cheap massage. liars!!!! when we finally found the right opening, it was so busy and totally expensive for Thailand, we just up and left. So I never even saw it! Went to Jim Thompsons house instead, that ws great. I agree it was my worst experience of Thailand too! It's important to notice that there's a dress code in effect. Due to its location close to Kho San road. You get a lot of really scuffy looking people who look like they just came out of a soup kitchen line. This really pisses off the locals. The military guards were probrubly informing you you were not dressed properly. You are better off wearing long dress pants . If you are not wearing the proper attire you can rent clothes. |
