While in Bangkok, music came over a loudspeaker & everyone stopped walking and stood still. What was this music? |
Travel Info When holidaying in Bangkok, I visited a market. At around sunset, music came over the loudspeaker and everyone around me (ie the local Thais), stopped walking and just stood still. About 30secs later the music stopped and everyone continued about their business. What was this music? Was this the Thai national anthem? Does everyone have to stand still or just the Thais (what about the tourists)? How often does this occur? Everyday? 3 times a day? Travel Tips it could be the national anthem. Also music is coming from a small truck with loudspeakers and signs for ads, info people of a festival, and also to promote boxing matches. Source(s): me Other Travel Tips it probably was the national anthem. It always plays at 8:00 in the morning before the school and government office hours start and again at 6:00 p.m. in the evening. Also, if you go see a movie in a theater, they will play the King royal tribute music before the movie start too. Everybody will stand up just like the national anthem to show the respect. I suggest you do what the Romans do when you're in Rome. That is to also stand still till the song ends to show respect. I think it's their country song. It's definitely the national anthem. Thais are very patriarchal! Lived in Thailand for a few years. It should be National Anthem, which will be radio twice a day at 8:00 am (school and government office open time) and at 6:00 pm. in the evening. They just do like all other nationalties do, nothing special. The other music you may hear is, Royal Anthem.. The song will be played when Their majesties arrive and depart at all official functions. All entertainment, shows and threatres also play the song prior to the show. |
