I've been there. I went with my family a year ago. I loved it, getting up close to the tigers and taking photos with them. Worth visiting!!
I have been there - TWICE. It is worth visiting as long as you keep these pointers in mind:

- IT WAS NOT set originally purely for tourist. Keep in mind you are the guest there and that the place is not a "tourist" attraction.

- It is temple compound so show a lot of respect especially your dress code. Do not do like some idiot tourists who walk in there without shirts on (and let their children do the same)

- Do not wear perfume and do not smoke around the tigers.

- This is NOT a zoo. The tigers are not kept purely for tourists. They are still "wild animals" This is their home and they are not given any drugs to keep them docile. SO - LISTEN to instruction by the monks and the carers and you wo't get hurt. If you get hurt - forget insurance and compensation. This is Thailand!

- Give generous donations! A little bit of foreign money is A LOT in Thailand.

- tell your friends who may want to go these same reminders. It is good to visit but conduct yourself appropriately!
I'm not sure that I went to "the Tiger Temple" but I went to one close to kanchanaburi. It was very good.

They didn't have the tigers out when we arrived as they usually take them out in the morning but the monks were very kind and let one out for us to walk with and take photoes of, I remember that we took cigarets with us but didn't smoke, we gave them to the monks;-)
I have and I was really excited about going but when I got there I just had this sense that the whole thing was wrong. It was weird I just felt wrong for being there and I choose not to go in to the tiger area and get a picture. They are wild animals and the way it was setup into a sort of tourist attraction just did not sit well for me. But that was my opinion most people didnt seem to care.

The lonely planet guide actually recomends that people do not support it and they say that there have been a few incident with the tigers and tourists.
I've been there and you can actually stroke the tigers! Perhaps the monk's serenity keeps them in check! There's monkeys there too. Go, enjoy x
