I'm travelling to Bangkok for the first time by myself in May and i just wondered how big the airport was? |
Travel Info Just wondered if it was complicated to find your way around even with signs!! Help would be much appricated , many thanks :) Travel Tips Yes, it can be a bit complicated. The signs tell you where to go but.... Below is the better website to understand Suvarnabhumi Airport. http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node... ON the right is the arrival terminal for international flights. And just follow the crowds down to the main part of the terminal where customs is. You will pass a kiosk that looks like you may have to stop. If you are from a select group of countries that do not require a visitors visa or are automatically issued a visitors visa at entry. Don't stop here. Proceed to the customs and Immigration areas beyond this area. There are 2-4 sets of doors you can go to for immigration and you cannot see the next set of immigration kiosks from the others. Real smart!! If you see a big line go to the next set of doors. Don't worry there are like 23 baggage claim kiosks behind the immigration and customs kioks. It's can be along walk between doors. After you get through this mess and find your bag. Go down one floor to the Bus Lobby, the Taxi stand will be out there also and tell them where you are going, they all speak english. They will remind you that it is an extra 50 baht for taking the taxi, that is the Airport taxi fee. Make sure the meter is on. You should only pay from 150 baht to 250 baht depending on where your hotel is plus the 50 baht. http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node... There are airport express that cost 150 baht and there are 4 lines running into Bangkok. http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node... Have a good time and stay out of dark places. Good luck Others It is a massive airport, the signs are in English but it can be a bit confusing. If you are not sure just ask someone as they are only too pleased to help out. Have a great time and don't worry!! They have a new airport called 'Suvarnabhoomi' (golden land) which is pretty big though reportedly the design features of it leave much to be desired! So, allow plenty of time to move around the airport! The old airport was the most chaotic one one can find anywhere in the world! Hi, it is not too difficult to get out of the airport. The signs are clear enough to direct you from your arrival gate to the immigration, which is more or less central, and just behind this is the exit already. As usual, there are 2 designated exit points as in old Don Muang airport, exit to the right for tour companies and exit left if you are on your own or meeting hotel reps. Not to worry too much. It is departure gates that you need to be concerned because they are designated at different level and have different entry points. So might be good to give yourself a bit of time to find you r departure gate instead. The airport is big enough for airplanes to land. I have used the new aiport and I am sure you will be fine. The signs are in English and there are plenty of staff to ask, but just go with everyone else thru to immigration, then next to this is baggage collection, you cannot go wrong. It is a long walk, but there are walkalators. Arrivals are on the ground floor and you will see people for departures who I think are on the top floor. unless you need an internal transfer then there is no need to get lost on another floor. When you leave get an ordinary yellow taxi with a meter, it shud be 200-300 bht into the city. DOnt be hassled and allowed to use more expensive blue or private taxis, haggle and walk away if your not sure. Thai people are almost all friendly and helpful and will feel pleased if you ask for assistance, unless you meet the "odd grumpy one" who is having a bad day, treat people nice and you will be very well respected. Which airport? They moving some flights back to the old airport because of problems with the new one. |
