Nana area Bangkok is it a awful place to stay ? |
Travel Info I was goin to stay at Majestic Suites Bangkok but i then realised it has the red light district behind it. I really dont want to have that shoved in my face. Then i saw excellent reviews for the Majestic grande which is just down road. I is a wee bit confused . Is it really that bad there even on main road around the nana metro stop? How far does this nana red light district area spread . Nothing but bars, bargirls, prostitutes, drunks and the Nano hotel at 2:00 AM becomes a walking parade of prostitution. It's not that clean even in the daytime. I think if you are a female, you will not like walking through this and when you get off Nana Station Sky Train, you have to walk right through the worst part. If you can post a price range, there are some real experts on this site that can direct you to the best hotel for your money. Well, it is not that bad in terms of danger. It is an area that is designed for tourists and foreigners with lots of foreign food and many good restaurants. There are nice hotels in the area as well. That said, the "area" stretches and mingles with much of Bkk anyway, Nana, you might say is the heart of it.. You might want to stay in the Silom area, but that is where Patpong is - - You probably will see some action along this line no matter where you stay. I would not let it bother you too much.. but outside of bkk has many wonderful places to visit as well - - have an enjoyable journey.. Well to start off with you WILL be safe there. Stayed at the Nana afew times its a handy area for the skytrain. But like others have said the area is one of the red light areas - all during the afternoon there will be girls outside the hotel picking up custom which only worsens with the time of the day. The prob is, if you go to Bangkok, this is a side of it you prob dont want to see but avoiding it would mean you miss out on something that you might never forget. After midnight it does get abit ontop of you, all the bars are everywhere and the girls hang about pretty much everywhere in this area. It really depends on the area you want to stay in and why you are staying in Bangkok for? If you are after abit of nightlife then stay near there, if you like it quiet avoid it. The main plus side is around that area is always alive with so much life - i would stay near there again, just like the experience of the whole place. I went with my g/f last year about this time and we stayed there. It opened both our eyes and i would deff go back, if you go to bangkok you want to see bangkok in all its definitions I think andybing1978 gave an excellent answer. The Nana area is not THAT bad. You can walk down soi 4 without actually going into the Nana Plaza which is just a few metres down on the left. Even if you did, there's some outside bars you could sit down and have a drink and watch the people coming in and going out of the plaza. Further down, you have Jools - a real pub frequented by expats who live here. You might not want to confuse the term "metro stop" with the Sky Train stops. Nana is a Sky Train stop. A metro stop is usually a tube stop (the underground, also referred to as the MRT). Besides Nana plaza, you have the huge Landmark Hotel with its outdoor eating place, and across Sukhumvit, you have many incredible Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants, travel agencies, etc - a microcosm in itself. The outside bar at the corner of Soi 5 (also on the north side of Sukhumvit) is also a good place to watch the world go by - especially at night. Enjoy. There are so many classy hotels to choose from, you are not restricted to that area. That area is certainly not characteristic of Bangkok or Thailand. Maybe more like Arabtown. Other than some writing on the stores or streets, you could be in ANY large metropolitan city. Choose another hotel. |
