Is things cheaper at Thailand?

Travel Info
Is everything cheaper at Thailand? How much does a bottle of soda cost in Thailand?

Travel Tips
some things do some things don't, if the produce is made in Thailand it will be cheaper, example a can of diet coke (made and distributed in Thailand) cost about 11 baht in Tesco that's about 30 cents.

Others
Some things is.

(The correct verb is actually "are", as in "Are things cheaper in Thailand")
things are cheaper in Thailand if you are spending American dollars, because of what is called 'rate of exchange'. The dollar is worth more in Thiland than it is in America.
I can only base my answer on my experience in the Philippines. Many things, especially locally grown or harvested food, would be cheaper. Locally-made soda would be cheaper than the brand names like Coke, 7-Up, Mountain Dew, etc. Cheap consumer goods including clothing, school supplies, umbrellas, and locally made electronics would be readily available. But not "everything" will be cheaper.
a lot of things will be cheaper because of the exchange rate. although the thai baht has gotten a lot stronger recently the US dollar is still a lot bigger. for example might cost about 20 baht which is equivalent to about 70 cents at the current excahnge rate. not everything will be cheaper though and part of the reason is the high tariffs on imports which make foreign products much more expensice in thailand
Basic deal is most local products are cheaper here, imported more expensive... it all depends on what you are looking for and you don't say where you are coming from - so, the question is cheaper than where? ok, probably american huh?
You know, clothing, on sale, in Walmart, out of season, will be cheaper than here - but you can get a tailor made suit for far cheaper than in the USA.. so, what I am saying is - heads up and come check for yourself - - rent, especially outside of bkk can be real cheap $100 a month for some place decent.. food can be real cheap too and good - - you know the game, JC Penney can be 2x the price of Walmart or give 30% off the day after you buy - and as everyone is saying above - the dollar is down more than 20% - and that does make a difference.. so, it is getting more expensive over the last year or so.. but still cheaper..
It depends on the product or service and where you buy. Tesco (a UK chain) is cheap for foods, etc. where a Coke might cost 12 baht. Yesterday, while in Bangkok, I bought a Coke in the Landmark Hotel that cost me 100 baht (about 3 USD).

Local items are cheap; imported ones can be expensive. Buying in downtown Bangkok can be more expensive that outside of town.
