Mexico-US Border crossing in San Ysidro? |
Travel Info If you regularly cross the border from Tijuana into the US, what is the best day and time of day to avoid the traffic and long delay? Also, where the road "Y"s before it splits into all the lanes on the Tijuana side, is one way faster than the other? Travel Tips There are plenty of bad times to cross the border. In the morning most days of the week it can be horrible. People start lining up at the border from 4 am (and some earlier) and it doesn't slow down untill mid morning. So during the mid day is usually a decent time to cross and even in the early evening because everyone is coming into Mexico so you will be doing a reverse commute. Any time Friday night or Saturday night will be bad. And maybe Sunday too, not sure about that. Because everyone goes to Tijuana those days and if they go those days that means they will come back those days. In fact most all day Saturday won't be good. There is also one day of the week when all the stay at home moms cross the border for shopping I think that day is Wednesday but I'm not sure. Most all of December especially the closer you get to the holidays will be ridiculously bad. Everyone will be going to Mexico to visit family and then returning, or coming from Mexico to visit family, or coming across the border to do Christmas shopping. Really anytime there's a holiday or 3 day weekend there will be extra traffic of people visiting family or having fun in Baja for the long weekend. Good luck. By the way I don't recomend the carpool lane, 7 of ten times it's slower. However if you are going to be doing quite a bit of crossing you should apply for a sentri pass it will help you a lot they have seporate lines. If crossing on foot there was a seporate line for seniors and people on bikes that was faster but I heard somewhere that it recently got shut down. If that is not true there was a little parking lot right next to the line that would rent you a bike for a few bucks or more depending on how long the line was, so you could cross quicker. However the very best way to cross, which is better at any time of the day, better than walking, better than car pooling better than the sentri line, is riding a motorcycle. You can go between traffic to the very front of the line. This is a common practice. |
