What is it really like to LIVE and WORK in Tijuana? |
Travel Info My husband is being deported. If it comes to it in the future and we have to move to Mexico I want to be somewhere close to the border so I can come back to visit. I've heard lots of bad things about Tijuana, but also some good ones. What is it really like? Are there any good parts of the city? How much is rent? What kind of jobs could my husband get if he doesn't speak English? Anyone have any advice??? Travel Tips Hi Tiece. First of all, Tijuana is just a another mexican-border-to-us city, so there are a some very bad places to live and some very good ones. There are lots of shopping malls, parks, movie theaters, supermakets, you name it. We even have McDonalds, BurgerKing, CarlsJr, Costco, DominosPizza, PizzaHut, and soon a Walmart store if you get homesick. Some good residential areas are more expensive than others but are worth it, like Hipodromo, Cacho, Aguacaliente, Chapultepec and Playas de Tijuana. An advantage of these is that they're not that far from the border or downtown. Rent for an appartment on these areas could come up from $300 to $700 USD. There are all kinds of jobs. From choufer to systems engineer. The languaje is no big problem but it helps to speak English if you plan to work attending clients. The biggest problem that we have right now is insecurity, to the point that sometimes we don't even count on the police. On the other hand, there's Rosarito beach, just a 30-45 minute drive from the Tijuana-San Ysidro border. Rosarito is smaller and with more turistic activity. It is very calm compared to Tijuana and the rent range is wider but in some places is lower. Good luck. |
