Is Toronto a good place to live for someone new to Canada?

Travel Info
I'm a 17 year old from Brooklyn, NY and I was wondering whether or not Toronto was good place to build a new life. Within the next 2-3 years, I want to move out of Brooklyn and go some place different. Is Toronto a city in which I can build a new life away from Brooklyn? Is it affordable? Is it similar to New York City? So on and so forth.

Travel Tips
Toronto is often called "Canada's New York" Its one of our two biggest cities (the other largest being Montreal, then Vancouver, Ottawa etc etc) Its a more expensive city to live in than some of the smaller cities in Canada. Toronto is busy, fun, safer than a American City, and close to many other cities and towns. Its a pretty good place to live, but may be a bit expensive to get started on your own. Most young people who wish to work or study there live just outside the city as it is cheaper.
Others
Come to Alberta. It is by far the richest provence ( one of the richest places in the world) and has jobs in the oil field that you can make more than $180'000 a year. There is also good job oppertunities for many other careers to. Living also isnt that expensive ether and the living cost is quiet low. ( except for buying a house!)
...i was born and reared in toronto and i will tell you steer clear but don't go to red deer - alberta that is -...40 years in toronto and i'll never go back except to visit my family and friends who profess it's " goodness "..i don't know your profession but why not send some time working in europe or asia...that's what i'm doing and loving it
I have heard Toronto described as "New York, as run by the Swiss." Go, I used to live there and it is great.
Come to Vancouver cleaner better climate nice people nice place to live and work. now with Olympis comming lots uf work. Vancouver is a little smaller.Check out tourismvancouver.. I have lived here all my life and now retired
I am in the same position right now, only a year older then you and looking for the same thing. However is it not possible, as much as I wish it was, to just up and move to Canada. Imigration can be the biggest pain in the *** and can take more then 3 years.
Yap Toronto is called New york of Canada and i will say the Scarbrough is Brooklyn
u can settle is Markham,Missisauga Barrie or Oakville for a Different taste of life
