Also, in a factory I worked in many years ago, it was used interchangeably with terms like "dummy," "airhead," etc. "Hosehead" is another variation. I think the English use the term "deft."

Others
Only ever heard it used on Second City a TV series in the 80's as a put down. Only other time is when people were imitating Second City. They did a skit about beer drinking Canadians and it became their most popular. So, roughly, it is what you call your buddy when you are calling him names.
A Hoser is the quintessential Canadian stereotype of a "Good ol'boy". A beer drinking, hockey watching, lumber jacket wearing, working class guy.
Your a hoser, if you live in the US you are a redneck!
