Theater in Toronto? |
Travel Info I'm planning on visiting a friend in Toronto within the next year to year and a half. I heard Toronto was fairly well known for it's theater district. What sort of venues should I look into, and what sort of plays or other productions might I be able to see? Thanks in advance. Travel Tips Visit www.toronto.ca for most updated information Others Check out the links below. These are the shows being played right now. In a year from now who knows what they will be. The Princess of Wales, The Royal Alexandra and the former Pantages, now the Canon Theatre usually host the most well known shows. BTW in Canada it's spelled Theatre, just like the Brits. Keep that in mind if you Google Toronto Theatres http://www.torontotourism.com/dynamiccon... http://toronto.com/searchresults?q=&r=ca... http://www.mirvish.com/ Also adding to the previous information. We also have: Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thompson Hall & Massey Hall. http://www.mirvish.com/ourtheatres/canon... http://www.hummingbirdcentre.com/... http://www.roythomson.com/ Mirvish is the guy behind most of the theatre plays in Toronto. You can visit his website at www.mirvish.com. This company owns the 3 main venues and here is my personal review for each of them: -The Royal Alexandra theatre very old theatre with one main level and 2 balconies. It's a nice theatre cauz it's old but the seats are very small and no leg room. -The Princess of Wales theatre it's the newer one, seats are wider and very comfortable. modern bathroom. The stage is huge, it was design specifically for Miss Saigon in 1993. -The Canon theatre I think it was built in the 20's as a theatre then became a movie then a theatre again. It's really nice looking, very large orchestra and the upper level is just continuous. The seats are spacious, but if you are row 40 you are very far! The negative thing about Canon, it has a very small lobby/ lounge, so intermission are terrible, no where to go. For most of the good plays, good seats are gone before the public onsale, they have a lot of subscribers(like season tickets). The best ticket broker for those prime seats and sold out shows is Star One Tickets. I have been buying from them every time I am in Toronto. www.Staronetickets.com Hope it will help you! http://www.staronetickets.com/cities/tor... |
