How is the area downtown Toronto at Jarvis and Gerrard? |
Travel Info Planning on moving at that intersection and want to know if it's a nice area. Travel Tips People, people, calm down.... you make this area sound like Sodom and Gomorrah. Jarvis and Gerrard is not much of a neighbourhood, per se. It is on the edges of several neighbourhoods. It is south of the Gay Village, north and west of Crack Town, and east of the Yonge Street shopping strip. One major plus is that is is very close to Ryerson University. If you are moving here to go to Ryerson, it is perfect. If you are a young, single guy I think that it will be OK for you. There is a big grocery store just south of Gerrard off of Jarvis. You are within walking distance of everything and there is 24 hour TTC routes close by. (And if you do need to score some crack or a hooker, well, it's right there too.) Others Well it is one of the trendiest, cleanest, and colourful areas of the city because...well, it is in the heart of the gay community. So if you are not homophobic and want to be close to the entertainment district and to the best that the downtown core has to offer (caf茅s, restaurants, shopping)...then Jarvis and Gerrard is a good place to be. Toronto native. Oh boy. What's your definition of "nice"? Jarvis and Gerrard. Tricky, tricky, tricky. That would put you basically smack in between the gay village and the homeless/crackpot area of town. Yes, it does happen to be a short 10 minute walk from downtown's niceties, but it's not exactly the kind of area you'd want to raise a kid for example, at least not for too long anyway. In that area you are surrounded by several agencies that help troubled youth, recent immigrants, drug addicts, etc. The main intersection of the gay community is Church and Wellesley, one block west, and a couple blocks north from where you might be at. The main intersection of the poverty-stricken drug community is Dundas and Parliament, one block south, and two blocks east of you. This area would be perfect if you're gay, want to help homeless people, and want to be close to the downtown shops. Oh, and the other poster has a good point about the gay area being nice, but really, how often can you spend at gay bars and restaurants, because other than that, there's not much there. Yes, it's nice at Gay Pride time, and it can be fun from time to time, but do you want to make it your home? Anyway, Gerrard is at the southmost part of that area, so it's not like you're particularly benefitting by looking out on the colourful Church street, because you likely won't see it from your apartment. If you are gay it is ok, this is an area that for last 30 years only Whores have business, so if you have FAMILY, it is the worse area in Toronto; it is center of gay parties, you will see a lot of nude guys.. If u r a Gay and love WEED as well this area wil be ideal for you. Oh, it's beautiful!!! Just don't bend over on the street if you drop something.....;) |
