What is the quality of life like in Toronto?

Travel Info
I just finished a two year stint in Chicago, and truthfully hated it. It was crowded, filthy, the people were rude, and EVERYTHING was just a pain (the traffic was so horrendous that you wouldn't believe it... public transportation was unclean and dangerous...) What's life like in Toronto? I know it's a big city, and I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Is it difficult to own a car? Does it take you an hour and a half just to go 20 miles driving? Clean? Over-crowded? I do not expect perfection by any means, but Chicago was rancid.

Travel Tips
Ok, I've lived in Toronto most of my life (came here when I was 2, I'm 18 now) and how you describe Chicago seems pretty close to it. I'm gonna be honest..
- All people care about here is money
- TTC bus drivers are ridiculously rude
- It's crowded if you go to places that are crowded...like a busy street like yonge street instead of a park
- The traffic is REALLY bad at rush hour
- There's a zillion different nationalities
- Everyone always looks miserable and pissed off
- People judge how you look and look down on you if you look the least bit different
- The nightlife will be non-existant pretty soon, they are shutting down most of the nightclubs
- There's a lot of dirty, bad areas (Jane and Finch, Scarborough, etc.)
- You can make well over $100, 000 and still won't find a decent place to live
- You'll run out of fun things to do very quickly
- Car insurance is insanely expensive...thats why I can't get a car

It's not perfect so if you're ok with all that, welcome. =)
Others
It's very clean. I liked the Rogers Centre and the people seem nice.
Toronto is very clean, and relatively safe in respect to larger metropolitian citys, it has a good transit system, you can ask people questions on the street and not be ignored.

I was a chef and worked all over Canada, mostly in the TorontoGTA area, I know most people see the news on TV and think Toronto is violent and crime riddled, but as of May there has only been 24 murders, and 20 of them have been solved, done or commited by family or persons the victims knew or had association with.

I lived off and on foe 12 years there, mined you I am 6'4" and weigh close to 300lbs, but I lived in 5 different areas and in Kleinburg, north of the city and was never threatened or accosted once.

In comparisons to Chicago, it is similar in some but not all ways, once you learn the subway and transit system and schedule, find a nice apartment, 1 bedroom places run $600-800 a month, and the wages for most all employment is good and is quite wide open at the time.

I would check out the local newspapers, the Sun and Star, and search the words Toronto Rentals in Yahoo for more accomadation help, but if it were me, I would take Toronto over Chicago any day.
Future, I'll tell you straight. Toronto is a far nicer city than Chicago--and bigger too. She's clean, safe and welcoming to all. Food is top notch--nightlife is great--architechture is second to none. Good schools, hospitals and a huge system of parks. Public transportation is excellent. Hey join us and have fun.
