I'll warn you now, its hot and humid during the summer. Some people are friendly, but most are not. Depending on where you are in the city, the crime rate can be high. If you stick to the downtown core and stay away from the west end and east end, you'll be fine. Toronto is like every major city, it has its pros and cons.
The climate is very hot in the summer, and supposed to be very cold in the winter. Toronto people are nice, but there are a lot of people that aren't, so always be aware of your surroundings and where you are going. Whenever you cross a street, look both ways, even if it is green cause you never know what can happen.
Trying to predict weather in Toronto is hard, usually it runs from the late teens to 30C depending upon the day. It can be rainy and have some good thunderstorms.

There are lots of festivals in Toronto , Carribana, the Molson Indy, the Days on the Danforth.

I think Torontonians are just like most people in big cities anywhere. Generally it's a safe city, there are certain areas, who have more crime than other areas.

You must go and see Much Music at Queen Street East and John Street I think. They often have celebs and I think may also have tours of the building. If not there's always speaker's corner where you can tell Ontario what you think of Canada and Toronto.

Toronto is a very multicultural city and there's always alot to do.

Hope you enjoy your stay.
Its really Safe and nice place to live and Visit

have a good time here
Public transportation is very good there....subway and trollies. Very mulit cultural city, so spend a couple of hours in China Town also known as the Kensington Market area. Another lovely market is the St. Lawrence Market. Also you must visit the Bata Shoe Museum. Lot's of good restaurants. One of my favorites is 'Little India' on Queen Street east of John Street....great lunch buffet for $9. Generally pretty safe city during the day, be aware of your surroundings at night, specially if you are alone. Lot's of "homeless people" asking for money, but they are generally not homeless, so don't give them anything and don't feel guilty for it, they are scam artists. Hope you have a great time there.
Sometimes in the summer it is very hot, and humid. Sometimes there are smog advisories, where you shoudl try to limit the time you spend outside, especially if you are a senior. Some people are nice, some are nto it really depends on the person. As for safe, it seriosuly depends, depends on the area and if you are alone what time it is ect. Growing up in Toronto, once a man tried to kidnap me when I was 10 years old and I was living at Yonge and Eglinton, a safe area. Another time a man tried to grab my friend when I was walking with her and her sister, I was about 8 at the time. There were many warning at school of other incidents of sexual predators trying to pick up children. If you are downtown do not ever go to Queen street east at night, if you walk down the street a bit you honestly come into "cracktown" there are many people on crack and if you walk a while you will hit Regent park which is a very scary neighborhood, one of the scariest.
If you are driving, traffic can really suck! If not I suppose you will be using the subway which during rush hour can be very busy, do not ride the subway alone at night, there are many drunk people. Use common sense the city can be dangerous.
Also there are many gangs "wars" I have witnessed many fights on the subway and at the Eaton centre over the color of someones bandana. In the past few summers there have been many shooting due to gang violence but it seems to have cooled off. My mother was robbed while she was working at a small boutique on Yonge street in the middle of the day. Living there my whole life I have witnessed many violent acts, but it is a large city and there are many people, so I hope I am not scaring you, I just really want you to be safe. My parents trusted the city and I was almost kidnapped, so please please be careful.
