Is the 905 region (suburban Toronto) very conservative? |
Travel Info An American friend told me that that during the Brian Mulroney (1980's) and Stephen Harper (today) administrations, the 905 provided the bulk of conservative support. I am from Buffalo, and I am moving to Toronto. Now, is the 905 region extremely conservative? Travel Tips The "905" region is basically the suburbs of Toronto - suburbs are notoriously Conservative wherever you go. Recently, "905" has become pretty culturally diverse, especially to the West and Northeast of the city. But are you talking about politics, or culture? Watch the next election and see how party support changes... meanwhile, suburban folks with disposable incomes are more likely to be conservative because our federal Conservative Party is all about Capitalism. Makes sense, right? Others Conservative in Canada is different then Conservative in the U.S. , The 905 is more conservative then Toronto but not as conservative as most of rural ontario Its very diverse. Right now it seems to be dominated by liberals in each riding. The liberals have done such a poor job due to Dalton Mcguinty that is will probably switch support back to conservative again next election Culturally, the 905 region is more politically conservative than the central city, especially in regards to the popular support for road and freeway construction. Politically, however, the Ontario PC Party has not been well-represented in the area recently - this is likely to change in the future due to Liberal government failures. They tend to vote "blue". However, those are still nice communities to live in. It isn't going to be like a "Republican Gathering" if that is what you are concerned about. My ex lives in Mississauga. It is quite laid back. People from the wealthy neighbourhoods vote and the ones from modest ones tend not too. This is the only reason why so many Tories get in. |
