Travel Tips
It's part of the Trans-Canada highway, but all the locals simply call it the "401" (four-oh-one).

Sometimes, it's officially known as the "McDonald-Cartier" but again, you ask a local where that is and most won't know what you're talking about.
Others
Macdonald-Cartier Freeway or
The King's Highway No. 401

McDonald Cartier free way
Macdonald-Cartier Freeway
Highway 401 is NOT part of the Trans-Canada Highway ... except for the dozen kilometers or so between the Quebec border and the junction with Highway 417.

It is also called the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway and (sometimes) the King's Highway No. 401

There was also a proposal in 1961 to rename it to the Leslie M Frost Thruway that was approved by the provincial cabinet but was not carried out.
