there by 4 in the evening. I'm assuming banks and stuff would be closed. Is there a place that I could exchange currency or encash my travellers checks on a saturday evening? Thanks

Your hotel may cash them for you. Some supermarkets cash them as well. Why not look up a few banks in the area and see how late they are open?

Information Services
Information services at all Pearson Airport terminals are available in either of Canada鈥檚 official languages (French or English) as well as many foreign languages reflecting Toronto鈥檚 multicultural mosaic. Mobile passenger information representatives are found throughout each terminal to assist airport customers. Uniforms and identification tags make them easily visible. Information services are also available by calling:
Terminals 1 and 2 (416) 247-7678 or (416) AIR-PORT
Terminal 3 (416) 776-5100
give them a call and ask what time the currency exchange at the airport is open until.
Last time I was in Toronto currency exchanges was not a problem. Most places took both Canadian and American Currency, and I can't think of a single place that didn't take the travelers checks. I never had to go to a bank or and currency exchange. Also I used my debit and credit cards most of the time and didn't have to deal with a thing.
If you're flying into the city, the airport has a number of International currency exchanges. International Currency Exchange (ICE) can be found in Terminals 1, 2, and the Infield Terminal. The Terminal 3 currency exchange service is operated by Travelex. Here are contact numbers:

ICE Currency Services Terminal 1& 2 416-776-4040
Travelex Canada Limited Terminal 3 905-673-7461

TD Canada Trust banks are open Saturdays, however, only until 3. If you are really worried, I would suggest exchanging a minimal amount of Canadian currency before you leave for emergencies. The majority of stores, cabs and restaurants accept all major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, Amex).

Enjoy your stay in Toronto!

I travel to Canada all the time and you shouldn't ahve any problem cashing traveller's checks. Of course, your ATM card will work up there as well so if you need Canadian cash all you have to do is find a cash machine.
