What are your experiences at Canadian universities and which programs are the best in Ontario?

which field has least competition?

Travel Tips
That's a pretty wide-ranging topic without narrowing down what subject or area of study interests you. You'll get more specific answers if you tell people what you are looking for from a school, subject, what type of degree you want, what area of Ontario you want to live in (big or small city, large or small campus, etc?)

In general, Canadian universities are good.

I went to Carleton University in Ottawa for Film Studies. They have pretty good Film, Journalism, Mass Communications, Art History, and Political Science departments. I have friends who went to York and U of T, Queens, Ottawa U, Western, and Brock who had decent things to say about their programs (ok, maybe not Brock so much).

As for least competition, that's tough to say. If you're not sure you can always go for a general arts degree.

Others
I went to Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.

You'll find that Canadian University programs are much more consistent than American University programs. The courses from one university to another will be quite similar. Other than that, i would expect that it's pretty similar to any American schools.

As for programs... well... you didn't specify your interests/goals/etc. Ontario has a lot of universities, with lots of programs. Waterloo is very well known for engineering and math. York is the place to go for business. University of Toronto is great for medicine, etc.

If you're more specific about whay you want to do in life, you may get a better answer.
Ontario has many very good unviersities. It really depends on what you want to do.
McMaster, York, the University of Toronto, Ryerson, Carleton, Western, Queens these all are very well know for different things. (There are more than these too.)

You have to know what you are looking for. Business, Fine Arts, Social Work, Science--graduate work--Law, Teaching...

If you narrow your question down and ask which university has a good program in (pick a program) you will get better responses.

Or ask which program is best in this university (pick a few universities)
Ontario, in general, has the highest standard of education across Canada. I go to University of Toronto. I love it.

Depends on the program you want to get into. Ontario is pretty much good for everything.

All fields are competitive, to be honest. People who go to university are smart and most of them want to get to grad school. If you're in science, you're competing with people who're applying to med school. In social sciences, they want to do law. In business, everyone want's to get an MBA, after their bachlor. Just find something that you like cause otherwise, you get sick of it after one term.

Good luck!
