Need some advice about a 1st time trip to Toronto...?

Travel Info
I've been reading up on some of the answeres to other people's questions and they've been helpful. But I've never been to Canada before, so... I know the Canadian dollar is cheaper then the USD, but that doesn't mean much... what's the cost of general things in the city? What's up with the pubilc transit? I'll be staying in the Theatre district, and on a VERY tight budget, but want to get out and explore. I love art, architechture, and museums. Also, I BREATH electronic dance music, where can I go to hear some good house, dnb, or even down tempo?
Any advice or help would be greatly appriciated!

Travel Tips
I have lived there on and off for 12 years, the area you are going to be in is the Entertainent district, with clubs on King, Queen and along both Adelaide and Richmond, there is a shopping center, bookstore (Indigo) IMAX theater. Public transit, is very good from streetcars, subway and buses all round. When I have to do alot and don't have the time to get tokens and I do not buy a Metro pass, a Day Pass costs $8.50, and you can ride all over the city for 14 hours, night and day, all levels of the system.

The museums are on Dundas, that is the AGO, and the ROM is on Queens Park Circle, you take the subway to the stop above Queens Park (Museum), there are inexpensive and fast food place all around the area your going to be in and there is variety from delis, Asian, burgers and roadhouse style foods. And your not far from Chinatown if your into real Chinese food.

Others
I hear they go the extra mile in adult establishments if you know what i mean.
I am not sure what the current exchange rate is now, but I went to Toronto several years ago and the exchange rate was $1.25 Can to $1.00 U.S. Which means that each U.S. dollar you have is worth $1.25. Some businesses offer better exchange rates to get your business so keep your eye open. What is most confusing is the metric system like when paying 1.30 for a liter of gasoline. That is when you have a difficult time figuring out just how much your paying for something. I would suggest converting all my cash to Can. then making a budget and sticking to it.
Prices are pretty similar to similar sized cities in other parts of the developed the world. Cheaper than New York, more expensive than Minneapolis.

Right now there is not a big difference in the values of the Canadian and American dollars. So for your tight budget, just pretend that Canadian dollars are American dollars and it should make sense.

Accommodations, food, entertainment and transportation will be your biggest expenses. You can walk to a lot in Toronto, but if you buy a weekly, daily or monthly pass, transit isn't too bad. A short cab ride in the downtown core runs around $10.00. Watch out for counterfeit subway tokens.

Many of the nightclubs have higher rates after 11 pm, so sometimes it's worth it to go while the clubs are still empty.

Many of the museums and art galleries have a free evening once a week, ask around.
