First of all check the weather forecast. If a strong, cold, windy arctic high pressure is coming in there will be good chances for heavy "lakes effect" snowburst blizzards on the windward sides of Lakes Eire and Ontario. In that case you should take the 401 to Qc 20. Cross the St. Lawrence on the Mercier Bridge, then QC 132 to QC Autoroute 15 which becomes I-87 in New York. I-87 to NY 74 to NY 22 to US 4. US 4 into Vermont all the way to Killington.

If lakes effects blizzards unlikely then go to the Niagara crossing into the USA. Follow I-190 to I-290 to I-90 to I-87 (or to I-890 to NY 5 to NY 50 to I-87 if you'd like a break from expressway driving
- that's a shortcut in kilometrage but will take just as long or a bit longer in time). Then I-87 to first Glens Falls exit. That turns into NY 254. NY 254 to US 4, proceed US 4 into VT then to Killington.

By the way, should you wish to check lakes area windward weather for return trip VPR (the Vermont stations of NPR - 88.7, 89.5 and 107.9 all should be clearly received at Killington) has incredible weather forecasters, and the noontime forecast is extended and usually describes locations of lakes effects snow streaming if they are happening.
Take the 401 to Windsor
well I would suggest taking the Kingston border since Vermont is towards the east. It wouldn't make sense to drive all the way to the western borders and drive extra miles and it would take longer.
