How is the fashion houses/shops in Toronto? I know there is a fashion district but are there just a lot of? |
Travel Info designer stores or are there affordable high-street shops like you find in NY? The reason why I ask is I am trying to open a fashion boutique...I want to know if I will have a lot of competitors. Travel Tips Toronto has lots of different fashion districts. Along Bloor Street (near Avenue Road) are the major designers' stores. In Yorkville (just north of Bloor Street, between Bay and Avenue Road, are lots of boutique designer stores. Sherway Gardens shopping mall is known for its upscale shops; not just any store can lease space there. Holt Renfrew fashion store - several locations including Bloor Street and Yorkdale shopping mall - will also carry the major designers. "The Fashion District" - as it indicates by the street signs - seems to refer to the area of the city where the clothing manufacturers have their factories. Along Spadina Avenue, near Queen and King, you will still find factory stores. Then there are the big box store plazas all around the suburbs. Competition? Yes, there will be no shortage of of it. Toronto is a large, metropolitan city and you won't be the first designer to set up shop here. Come and take a look and decide if you will fill a niche or can stand the competition. Others There are some affordable shops on Queen St. in Toronto, and there are also some independently run stores in Kensington Market, although these are mostly vintage. It really depends what kind of boutique you are looking to open. On Spadina, there are lots of different clothing stores specializing in a variety of types of clothing, many of which are reasonably priced. The Fashion District (Queen and Spadina) has a lot of inexpensive fashion at wholesale prices. |
