Travel Tips
Hello from Toronto and welcome:

Well, first of all you will be using the public transit system called the TTC, short for Toronto Transit. It's a great way of getting around. The subway is fast and clean. The bus runs all over the city. So you will have no problem with getting from place to place with our TTC.

Over all our city of Toronto is still pretty safe compared to the US. We do have a few that have moved here from the US that have caused some problems but we do take care of the problems pretty quickly(that's for sure). Think someone else mentioned about an area here in Toronto called Jane and Finch. STAY AWAY from there!! Mostly gang related problems, Too many apartment rentals in one area. It is know as the Jane Finch corridor. Just avoid this area.

You will be happy here!
Good Luck

As a New Yorker that visits Toronto a LOT, I can help.

The Toronto public transportation system is known as the TTC (their version of the MTA). They have an extensive bus, subway and streetcar system (you'd LOVE that if you've never been on a streetcar). Not as big as New York mind you but very reliable and clean. The subway runs up to 2AM and certain lines of the buses and streetcars run all night.

Crime is actually on the RISE in Toronto..the murder aspect anyway. Not like New York mind you even though NYC is getting safer. Stay away from the Jane-Finch area.

But generally speaking...you lucky person you! :)
this is one of those questions that varies from one person's opinion to another....having said that here's my opinion....

Toronto has had an increase in crime in the last30 years...a direct connection to the U.S. influence....but Toronto is still a safer city than most large U.S. cities including New York....

Transit in the downtown area is great....
People keep knocking Jane/FInch. Yes, it's not the nicest area, but it's not the worst either, there are plenty of nicer pockets in the area around it. Regent Park also has a bad rap, but is getting better. Parkdale, same. Most of Scarborough is yet to be desired.

Listen to the news people - where there is gun play, there is Scarborough.
sorry - I just had to say something.
