Travel Info Leaving from canada travelling around the world what's the best bank to use? Travel Tips I used President's Choice Financial (CIBC) never had a problem in Europe or Africa (have not made it other places yet) Others i cant recmond u any particualr bank. But u can use ur VISA, MASTER CARD and AMX CARD world over. Debit card option is also available in most of the countires if ur debit card is affilated with Cirus and Maestro for cash advances. i used this in Bangkok, Hongkong and Pakistan best of luck Any of Canadas big banks are good to use. I highly suggest you use travellers checks or your credit cards as you will be protected from theft, fraud, etc. Have a good trip. There aren't really any banks that are international, so to speak. You will need to check with your own bank, and have them tell you what to do. Likely they will advise that banks will display certain symbols in their windows/doors, that are internationally recognized. So your own bank card should work. FYI - My own bank card that was supposed to work, did not work in France or Spain. But did work in England and Italy. Go figure? Also, when you do go to the bank, or get cash, be sure to take out a lump sum that will last you. Taking out 200 euro (or whatever) is much more cost effective (bank charges, exchange) than taking 50 euro everytime you need it. Just be careful when carrying cash. (see below) Using your credit card and traveller's cheques as your first resort for funds is a great idea. Having a detail list of what you spent and where on the credit card statement is not only helpful, but also is a great keepsake from your trip. Or, if you are like me - provided heart palpitations when you opened it. Yikes!! Also, make your daily/weekly budget in the funds of the country you are in. NOT in CDN dollars. eg: accommodation, transportation, food, etc - perhaps 50 euro a day or 250 euro a week. Do not keep converting in your head. I find it drives me crazy, and totally sucks the fun out of my trip. I get used to carrying cash (bills) in my front jean pocket, instead of my pack or purse - just because I am pretty sure I'd notice my money getting stolen. I also keep any tickets or my passport in another place (than the bag I'm carrying) in case of theft. Better safe than stranded. |
