Toronto Accent? |
Travel Info does anybody know the origins of the Toronto accent? like the way mike myers or jim carrey talk, what accents were the influences on the Toronto accent? thanks Travel Tips Actually neither of them are from Toronto, originally. They both come from the burbs, Jim from the extreme burbs which may explain his acting. The entire southern Ontario uses what I call the Great Lakes Accent although it is predominant over much of English speaking Canada and also California and the American Great Lake States. The origin is strictly English as influenced by American and Canadian radio, television and cinema. Others never knew they had one , must be the country in them. Accent? We don't speak with and accent... (Our spelling is British. Historically (but not currently) we came from the British Isles. I guess that has some influence... 'Though we sound more like Americans than Brits. FYI - Many American TV news anchors are either Canadian or they have taken diction lessons from Canadians.) yes the accent is called the Torontonian accent or more commonly known as speaking normally Did you mean the TRONNA accent? you mean like C-eh-N-eh-D-eh?
