Travel Info Where is the best place for foreign exchange if I am going to Europe? In Toronto or Airport or money changers? Travel Tips Do not exchange much money before you go or even after you get to Europe. All money changers charge a fee on top of their frequently inflated rates. Instead, wait until you get to Europe and use your credit or debit cards at any ATM there to withdraw cash. The cash will come out in Euros (or whatever the local currency may be) and your card account will be charged in your own currency back home at a bank exchange rate usually much lower than at any money changer's. If it'd make you feel better to have some pocket cash when you land in Europe, exchange only a small amount ($50 to $100) at your local bank before you. Then draw cash from ATM's as you go in Europe throughout your stay there. Others When I travel out of the country banks give the best rates. Using a credit card or ATM is also good to do. Exchange your money at your bank before you leave. Another vote for the bank. Check with them to ensure they can get the currency you need (e.g. Swiss francs) and ask how much time they need to get the money in for you. At my bank they usually require 4 business days to order the money into the branch. Bon voyage! Tom T's got it. Get your local cash from an ATM where you're traveling to. Maybe a little from a bank here to tide you over when you get there. Works well. |
