Gas shortage in Ontario?

Travel Info
I live in Buffalo, NY and tomorrow my family and I are going to Detroit to visit some relatives. We will be taking the route through southern Ontario, because it's faster than going all the way around Ohio and it gets busy around Cleveland so we want to avoid that. But I have heard that there is a gas shortage in Ontario beacuse an Exxon plant had a fire and they cannot supply enough gas. I'm worried that this might be a problem. Our local news station in Buffalo was showing pictures of gas stations in Fort Erie, Ontario (the town across from us) and all the gas stations had yellow tape around them. It seems really bad, so maybe we should take the longer way through Ohio? What do you think?

Travel Tips
What started as a problem with Esso stations (because of the refinery fire.)... Has extended to other stations now. They suggest that the shortage won't be fixed for another week or so.
I would suggest:
1.) Come through Ontario, but don't expect to buy any fuel here. Fill up your car in Buffalo. Carry some extra canisters full of gas. If your vehicle is a big gas guzzler, this will not work. My fuel efficient car could definitely make it the whole way.
2.) Go the long way around and visit us another time. We'd be happy to welcome you once this is resolved.

Others
As of tonight (Friday), there are still several places in the GTA (Toronto area) that do not have gas. In fact, out of the 6 gas stations in my area, more than half of them are closed with no gas. You will definitely find that there are plenty of gas stations between Fort Erie and Windsor that are closed. Just as an FYI, the plant was an Imperial Oil refinery in the town of Nanticoke which is located right on Lake Erie. They have repaired the damage to the plant and are operating again but it will take at least another two weeks before they are operating at full capacity. As it is, we are all feeling the pinch of not having enough gas up here and, even though going through Ohio is the longer route, I would personally take it and know there is enough gas between here and there than risk running out of gas up here in Canada. Hope you enjoy your trip.
You will be fine. Esso stations are the most affected, so avoid them.
